Sunny Ride to the Porongurups

Story: Garry. Pics: Garry, Ian and Phillip

Kalgan River Tearooms.
Sunday we were all welcomed by a very thick fog, but otherwise sunny for the coffee and picnic/BBQ ride.
We left Mira Mar in bright sunshine but soon descended into thinning fog by the time we reached the Kalgan River Tearooms. There was already a large group gathered around yakking and trying to get warm and drinking coffee.

The service was good from the cafe and about 10.30 nobody wanted to roundup the group so I called them in and gave a quick briefing of the proposed route.

We headed back to Prideaux Road and Bon Accord Road, past Bakers Junction and up to the Porongurup National Park with Linda Dixon towing the backup trailer.

Enjoying the sun between the trees.
Some had never been there before but we all arrived at the right place. After rigging up a burning twig the BBQ was alight and heating up for those wishing to cook.
Raelene supervising Paul, Steve and Ross cooking lunch.

The rest of us enjoying the pleasant weather amongst  the trees and birds. Much discussion about the friendly Rufous Tree Creepers hopping around our feet.

Raelene’s V50 Moto Guzzi and Phillip’s 750cc BMW - ridden down from Kojonup - a dedicated Club member.
Twenty-one bikes turned up in total, so after lunch (or a late morning tea) by about 12.30 it was time for the home run.

An enjoyable winter ride and thanks to Linda for back-up duty.
