Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride

Some of the Distinguished Gentlemen on the 2017 ride arriving at the Hybla Tavern, Middleton Beach.
Every year in late September the World-wide Distinguished Gentleman's Ride is held where tens of thousands of distinguished gentlefolk (men and women) in hundreds of cities worldwide don their cravats, tweak their moustaches, press their tweed and sit astride their classic or vintage styled motorcycles to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and men’s mental health.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in Sydney, Australia by Mark Hawwa. It was inspired by a photo of Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit. Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way to combat the often-negative stereotype of men on motorcycles, whilst connecting niche motorcycle communities together.

The 2017 Ride raised USD4.8 million from 92,000 riders across 532 countries worldwide. Influenced by the tragedy of losing one of the ride hosts to depression, from 2016 there was a change in  health fundraising goals.

Now, the funding of men’s mental health programs is a Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride focus, in addition to prostate cancer research through our new official charity partner The Movember Foundation and the support of our title sponsors, Triumph Motorcycles and Zenith Watches.

Last year in Albany seven intrepid gentlemen made the ride in not so good weather, so even more gentlemen and gentlewomen will be expected this year.

The ride is great fun. Get dressed up in your best “Gentleman's or Gentlewoman’s clothes” for a fund-raising ride from Haz Beanz Cafe (on the foreshore, near the Albany Entertainment Centre) at 10 am, although first a cup of coffee whilst admiring the view would be a good way to start.

We will then have a short ride. Last year it was to Muttonbird lookout, before returning to Albany via Marine Drive, stopping at the Hybla Tavern, where we had drinks, nibbles, lunch or whatever you fancy.

Donations via the website: https://www.gentlemansride.com

When you search the site, you will find the Albany ride, make sure you donate for this ride - Albany, Western Australia, not Albany, New York, USA.

Perth members, check out the Perth ride on the same site, they get a large number on their ride. You’ll be amazed at the amount of gentlemen and gentlewomen there are in Perth!
