Shane Rooney had offered to hold a sausage sizzle at his place
in Gnowangerup. Sounded like a great idea as we were planning on
a ride there anyway, and places for lunch are limited. Our small
band of a dozen bikes left in sunshine towards the Porongorup
and the Stirlings. As we were approaching South Formby Road,
John Davis and Glen Oliver appeared, couldn’t have timed it
better.
Shortly after we had a stop at the Bluff Knoll Cafe. We then
continued on through Amelup to Gnowangerup, there were some very
black clouds around and you could see where it had been raining.
But we were dodging the showers and stayed dry.
Glen escorted us to Shane’s place where he was waiting with his
family. Don Ball from Katanning was there and a couple of
locals, one of which had one three motorcycle racing titles in
NZ.
Tea, coffee, biscuits were laid out on the verandah and the
sausages and onions were ready to be placed in the bread rolls,
as well as other food. It was very well organised and
appreciated.
There was a heavy shower of rain at one stage where we headed
for the house and verandah.
After leaving Shane’s place we went over and inspected John’s
new (and old) shed before filling up at the roadhouse and
heading for home.
There were a couple of showers of rain, one looking a bit
ominous so I decided to stop and put my wet weather pants over
my leathers, awkward to do by the side of the road. Steve
reckoned the amount of time it was taking, the rain would be
gone and summer would be here soon.
A great ride, thanks again to Shane and family, oh and it didn’t rain in Albany all day.
