Matt organised a friend of his, David, who’s a policeman in
Walpole to do a speedo check for the Club, so we could
incorporate the check in a ride, excellent idea.
So off we went riding through Denmark before stopping at Bow
River for a coffee before taking the picturesque North Walpole
Road to Coalmine Beach where we had lunch.
The BBQ site on the Peninsular always has gas, as opposed to
Albany BBQ’s which are often empty, and this time was no
different. Once the BBQ lunches were cooked and sandwiches eaten
we headed back to Walpole where David and his laser radar gun
were waiting for us.
We were each given a number and were instructed to stay in
order as we made four passes, two at 70kmh and two at 90kmh,
just north of Walpole.
David trained the radar gun on us and his wife wrote down the
speed we were doing. I had a laugh doing the last run of 90kmh.
As I was approaching David a car overtook me, obviously
speeding. When he passed the police car he slowed right down,
and drove very slowly into Walpole. I reckon he’s still waiting
for his ticket in the mail.
We then gathered again in Walpole where David gave us our true
speeds. For some reason he couldn’t take my second pass at 70kmh
but it was interesting to see what my actual speed was as I’ve
had 15 inch wheels and car tyres on the sidecar outfit.
Not everybody made it for the radar check, but it was great fun
and we appreciated the effort David and his wife made on his day
off. Many thanks to Matt for organising it.
