A few guys were talking about riding to the Albany hillclimb on their
old bikes from Perth. I thought why not take the R25 BMW. Andrew does
it, so can I. Organize trailer to take down our other bikes for the trip
home.
We headed off on Thursday morning from Bannister across to Narrogin for lunch stop, then onto Katanning for the night. It was blowing a gale the whole way with the odd shower of rain to keep it cold as well.
There was a M21 BSA, an early Sunbeam, flat tank Norton and me on the
R25 BMW plus a couple of Norton Commandos. A 54 Royal Enfield met us at
the motel. It was the usual story-telling and beer drinking till late.
Off on Friday to Gnowangerup and a tail wind got me up to 90kph. Rang
John Davis and hid in his workshop till rain stopped then headed down
Formby Rd straight into a horrid headwind that had me in 3rd gear and
being left behind by the others. Pulled into Albany about 3pm and out to
camp at the rifle club.
Glad I didn’t have to ride it home, but it as a great ride and would be
better if there was no storm happening. Hope to do it again. Cheers,
Bruce.
