We had periodic showers of rain travelling over to Boyanup on
Friday. On the Frankland Road there were a few places where the
water had crossed the road, signs of pending danger were still
up. The paddocks seem to be greening up nicely. They had quite a
lot of rain over the last few days.
When we got to Donnybrook, we found our favourite café closed
due to water damage. On Saturday we all met about 9am at the
Transit Museum. Ken Vincent (the organiser) told me there had
been 28 bikes entered, only 1 no-show. There were seven Veterans
(pre-1919) and the rest were Pre-1931 motorcycles.
The weather man had promised them light showers. Wrong. Veterans
left first and were heading to Kirup for the morning tea break.
Some of the countryside was just great. Murray Rudler had
brought a visitor recently out from England to experience riding
a Veteran in the rally.
Moon Rising Hill out of Balingup presented problems for some of
the Veterans. Neil made it further than most but not quite to
the top. By then he was cold and very wet. A great effort for
his first ride as it is two years since his accident.
After loading the bike we followed the rally the rest of the way
to Nannup. Along the way we passed a place that had two caravans
set up in an approximate ½ acre, fenced yard with chooks in and
the caravans was where they nested. Then another the same a
little further away.
Dave Main enjoyed the rally on his Velocette. We had an evening
meal at the hotel at night. Most of the riders stayed at the
hotel. Macca stayed at the Caravan Park in a tent and water bed.
Sunday morning the hotel put on a cooked breakfast for those
that wanted it.
The riders and bikes gathered outside the hotel at 9 am to move
off at 9.30. Neil decided that he would not ride today as the
weather had not improved at all.
On the ride from Nannup, the rain was quite heavy. Some got
really wet. We finished the weekend off with a barbecue at
Murray and Sharon Rudler’s place.
Except for the weather, it was a great weekend, great company, certainly one for the calendar next year.
