Classic Rally and Hillclimb In Albany

Macca launches the 1928 BSA off the start lineSATURDAY, Nov 4 and 72 motorcycles were on display in Stirling Tce. Riders were then placed in the hands of the rally starter, Des Gaze for a "Le Mans" start.

The oldest bike was ridden by Macca from Yarloop, a 1916 Triumph TT model. and the youngest bike Linda Kelly's brand new Ducati Monster.

The rally took the riders around town and surrounding areas with afternoon tea at Elleker General Store, the bikes were on display for a short time before they left and returned to finish in Stirling Terrace.

SUNDAY: From 8 am the riders could be heard warming up to test the hill for the sixth Vintage Motorcycle Hill Climb here in Albany. Riders had come as far away as Carnarvon to enter this unique event. There were 75 starters for the main event at 10 am. The oldest bike on course was a 1926 Norton.

This year is the first time we have had a lady as outright winner. Lorraine MacDonald, on her 1947 BSA 250 had maintained a perfect score all day and won the run offs at the end to determine the winner. The run offs were timed to the hundredth of a second.
Results:
Best male: Paul Armstrong, 1967 Triumph Bonneville.
Best female, other than the winner: Sheryl Johnson, 1972 Suzuki T250.
Best sidecar: Bill & Shane Morrell, 1951 sidecar.
Best pre 1931: Neil Bromilow, 1928 BSA 500.
Best 1932-1950: John Bond, 1949 Triumph 500.
Best 1951-1960. Phil Penny, 1957 Triumph.
Best post 1961: A draw between, Murray Henderson, 1971 Honda 750 & John McKinnon, 1970 Harley Davidson 350.
Team losing the least points: The Prior Street Gang.
Team losing the most points: A-AM-RC.
Lucky number: Maurice (Whippy) Dawes.
Encouragement award: Daniel Cobain. It was his first ride in the Hill Climb and he only lost 2 points all day riding a Honda 500.
