SIDECARS TAKE OVER THE ROADS |
ON Saturday, April 17 Phil and Lurl Penny, John and Jan Bond and Clive Smith left the Amity Tavern heading for a VMCC sidecar event in Tammin. They were escorted by Bob and Mary Sutcliffe, Bob and Chris Rees, Brian Metcalf and Jim Livesey who were only riding to Katanning. Mike and Angie Saunders from Denmark (who were also riding the full distance to Tammin) joined the mainly 3 wheeler throng at Mt Barker. Bill Brown detected some funny noises in his bike and decided that it might be wiser not to take his pillion for a ride that day. Clive Smith had his sidecar sprayed to match his BMW and it looked great. For Chris and I it was our first major run on our BMW R100CS/Goanna sidecar and we swapped riding positions a couple of times, we were both impressed with the sidecar seat which we had taken to Ken Stones for repadding, the difference was amazing!! At Katanning we had a photo session of the 5 sidecar outfits, trike, and a couple of solos. We then said our goodbyes and the ones who were heading back to Albany did so via The Lily, just north of the Stirlings where we had a very pleasant lunch (the most popular was soup followed by apple pie with cream and ice cream) very healthy. The riders who had continued onto Tammin, had a most enjoyable ride and evening, Clive Smith sampled and was impressed with John Bonds and Spencer Sheffields outfits and is now looking for a leading link to fit to his bike. |
