Bruce Rock Pub Weekend

Black and white pix by John Mac

What a great weekend for a ride and a good turn-out of members with the pub booked out and three staying at the caravan park, which turned out to be very economical at $15 per person in the donga, which in turn was a room to yourself.

Bob on the road on his R100RS.
But getting back to the ride, we left Albany and headed to the Stirling Cafe which is now open. We were well looked after by the new owners who have a couple of bikes parked in the shed out the back.

Cornering on the way to Bruce Rock.
Then onto Pingrup where we met up with Phil and Bronwyn on their green machine who had ridden over from Kojonup to join us. Pingrup was out of fuel but John Mac came to the rescue with a jerry can for Chris’ Ducati which would enable her to get to Lake Grace. The S2R tank looks big, but it hides a lot of gear under it and holds only 14 litres.

At Lake Grace Peter from Donnybrook was waiting for us on his 250cc multi-coloured scooter, leaving the trail bike in the shed. He’d picked it up over east and ridden back to WA on it!

The original plan was then Hyden and Narambeen, but as time was getting on we took the shorter ride through Kulin to Narambeen, stopping for fuel before heading onto Bruce Rock. There the rest of the mob were already either relaxing in the bar or in the carpark. After many greetings it was time to organise our room.

The publican had organised $10 meals in the bar - fish and chips, seafood basket or lasagna. Cheap, simple and enough for me. There was also the normal menu if you wanted it.

John’s attempt at hitting the dartboard - hit the
          floor instead.
After eating and socialising for a while we decided to have a game of cricket - on the dartboard. Country v City, the one side batted (scored) and the other had to get them out starting at number one and working around to 11. Not a simple as it sounds with our multi-talented non-dart-playing group of motorcyclists.

Talent eventually shone though with the Country team winning by about 300 runs - good fun. As the evening progressed our crowd started thinning out getting replaced by the local hockey crowd.

Kylie and Bruce with Triumph lift achieved.
Now during the course of the evening it was noticed that there was a picture of a Triumph on the bar of the pub - well, wouldn’t it be a good idea to do that too! So out runs Bruce, grabs Kylie’s Triumph and pushes it into the bar, then the hockey team willingly give a hand to get it up on the bar.

The barmaid had a sit on it, the publicans wife, and of course Kylie, although she decided to start it up - the publican said, “The other mob didn’t do that” ha ha - he looked a bit worried. Eventually it was taken down and Bruce rode it out of the pub. Maybe we could do that at all the pubs we stop at?

Getting the bikes ready at the back of the Bruce Rock
pub to head home on Sunday.
Next morning it was time to part company leaving us to head back to Corrigin, for fuel and then onto Dumbleyung for lunch. Again the weather had been as good today as it was on Saturday.

On the lovely dirt roads near Narembeen.
After Dumbleyung (where Phil and Bronwyn left us) the weather started to change and the wind began to pick up. Next stop was Gnowangerup, there was one turning which had a lot of loose blue-metal, luckily no one come off. From there it was home to Albany. We had a brief shower just after the Porongurups, but that was it, arriving home about 4 pm. Great weekend, very enjoyable, see you next time.
