Ural Sidecars

Checking the chair out
While we were travelling around northern NSW last year we found ourselves at the Australian Ural Sidecar outfit distributors place in Kentucky. The previous night we stayed in a brilliant old pub in Uralla where, because we were on a bike, the double room was reduced from $75 to $55 - take note of that WA. Anyway we took one of the Urals for a spin.

I was quite impressed. They are very easy to handle and I reckon they could go anywhere just about.
The engine is a bit noisier than a BMW (which it is based on) but that is most probably due to greater clearances.

Jon was a great bloke, very honest and up front and was saying that even though he has two spare motors, there hasn’t been any trouble with the bikes.

Looking like the army or the camping version
They are a lot different in quality to the old ones with Keihin carbies, Brembo brakes, SKF bearings throughout, Herzog gears as well (the same as BMW) CDI ignition and 55 amp Denso alternator, electric and kick start and reverse gear. Prices ranged from I think around $17,500 to $20,000 with six different models.
